The Argentine writer Sabato died, 99

 Ernesto Sabato led the main commission which investigated the murders of as the military regime Argentine champion author and human rights, Ernesto Sabato died aged 99 at his home near Buenos Aires, Argentina.

His wife, Elvira Gonzalez Fraga, said that he was suffering from bronchitis.

He has won prestigious awards in Hispanic literature, but it is also known for his criticism of military regimes in Latin America.

He led the "Dirty war" commission which investigated the murders of thousands of people under the military regime of the Argentina in the 1970s and 1980s.

Works of Sabato include the Tunnel (1948), the heroes and tombs (1961) and the Angel of darkness (1974).

When he was appointed in 1983 to investigate the fate of those who disappeared during the military regime of the Argentina, he described the task as "a slow descent to the underworld."
