Ecuador's Correa wins the referendum

 Rafael Correa is likely to run again in 2013 presidential Final results of the elections in the referendum of May 7 of the Ecuador on political reform handed victory to President Rafael Correa.

The President plans include more control over the media and the judiciary, but his victory is still the final confirmation of the national electoral Council.


The opposition has several days to challenge the results.


The margin of victory is thinner than first expected.


Final count shows the camp of the Yes collected between 44.96 and 50.46% of the vote on the proposals for new voters.


The vote not between 39,25 and 42.56%.


Mr. Correa won approval on two of the most controversial proposals that would give him more power over multimedia content and property, and greater judicial control.


On the issue of judicial reform, the cast yes camp 310 000 votes, while the camp non-surveyed 250,000 ballots.


The Parliament of the country will be next week to discuss proposals governing the media.


However, opposition politicians can call the results into question by the filing of complaints to the electoral authorities.


They argued that the reforms of Mr. Correa is a taking of power.


One of the more controversial proposals was a ban on bullfighting.


The final results show the practice of killing the bulls as well as half of electoral 204 of Ecuador is to be banned.


The referendum was widely seen as a test of popularity for Mr. Correa, before the presidential election in 2013, when it is widely expected to run for a third time.
