How Nazi scientists have attempted to create an army to speak of dogs

This is further evidence that Hitler was mad barking.

In his amazing new book of dogs: A the Cabinet of curiosities Canine, historian of the University of Cardiff Jan Bondeson mines obscure periodicals to reveal the attempt unsuccessful Nazi to breed an army of educated dogs who could read Germanwrite and speak. "In the 1920s, the Germany many a 'new animal psychologists' who believed that dogs were almost as smart as humans and capable of abstract thought and communication," he wrote. "When the Nazi party, one might have thought that they would build camps of concentration to block these fanatics, but instead, they were actually very interested by their ideas.".

According to the book, scientists envisioned a day when the dogs serve alongside German troops and perhaps release of SS officers in preventing concentration camps. Therefore to unlock canine all this potential, Hitler established a Tier-Sprechschule (Animal Talking School) near Hanover and recruited "educated dogs" throughout the country. Teachers claimed a number of incredible findings. A terrier Airedale named Rolf became a mythical figure of the project after that teachers said, he could make by exploiting its paw on a Board of Directors (the number of taps represented the letters of the alphabet). With this skill in hand, he stated on religion, learned foreign languages and even asked a noble, "can wag your tail." Perhaps most bizarre is the claim by its masters Germans that he asked to serve in the German army, because he did not like the French. Another mutt bark "mein Führer" when asked to describe Hitler. And Don, a German pointer, it is said that imitated a human barking voice, "hunger!" "Give me cake!"in German.

Love of the Germany of dogs may be blinded the Nazis to the bizarre goals of their project. "Part of the Nazi philosophy, is that there is a strong link between humans and nature." "They thought a good that Nazi should be an animal friend," said Bondeson. "Indeed, when they started an internship of Jews, newspapers were flooded with outraged German letters asking what happened to pets, they have left.".

Hitler, a well known lover dog, had two German shepherds named Blondi and Bella. He killed Blondi, shortly before death in 1945. (via Sunrise)
