Mexico official police arrest child of fire

MEXICO City - Federal police arrested a former official Tuesday on homicide and abuse of authority charges related to a day care centre fire that killed babies and toddlers 49 nearly two years in the North of the Mexico.

Arturo Leyva Lizarraga, former delegate of State of Sonora to the Mexican Social Security Institute, was arrested in Guadalajara and piloted in Hermosillo, where the fire happened. The town is 175 kilometres south of Nogales, Arizona.

Although the Agency officers added that the Centre has passed inspection security, Director of security social Daniel Karam requested Leyva resign after June 5, 2009, fire.

Prosecutors did not specify the basis for charging Leyva, but investigators have said that officials have ignored fire risks while leaving the day to operate.

The Centre has caught fire after air conditioning overheating adjacent to a warehouse used by the Government of the State of Sonora. The blaze spread on the roof of the day care Centre, melting sheeting pieces which fell on children.

In addition to deaths, 70 children were injured
